Spotlight Mesa Partnerships "Youth Gathering Against Drugs:
2001" features information and action planning, speaker Kristen Genovese
from the East Valley Addiction Council, as well as presentations by the
Positive Force Players, a group of young actors who represent various
issues in theaterical performances. The event will take place March 2
from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Kirk Center and Clocktower. For information,

Canned Food Drive
St. Marys Food Bank, in partnership with Bally Total Fitness
and Jamba Juice, is holding the event, "Get Your Can to the
Gym!" during March.
Donations of five cans of food per person will be accepted at any
Bally Total Fitness or Jamba Juice location in the Valley. In return,
each person will receive a free one-day pass to Bally Total Fitness,
as well as an opportunity to enter in a drawing for a chance to
win prizes.
The event will kick off March 1 at Bally Total Fitness, 40th Street

Dr. Suess Birthday Bash
Dr. Suesss birthday will be celebrated on March 2 from 7 a.m.
to 2 p.m. in the grass area east of the old library. "Green

An ASU Bachelor of Inter-disciplinary Studies (BIS) meeting discussing

Spring Dance Concert
MCCs Spring Dance Concert, "Goin west: A Dancing
Diary of Old America," will be March 8-9 from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
at the Theatre Outback.
Dance performance, evening dance and tap classes will perform several
styles of dance including Modern Jazz, Tap, Modern Dance, and Hip-Hop.
Tickets range from $5 to $8 and will be sold at the Theatre Box

Archaeology Lecture
C. Brian Rose, associate professor of classical Archaeology at the
University of Cincinnati will speak on "Recent Greek and Roman
Excavations at Troy, Turkey," Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. in Room 340
of the Anthropology Building on ASU Main Campus, in Tempe. A reception
will follow at 8 p.m.
This free lecture will present the results of the most recent bronze
Age, Greek, and Roman excavations at the site. For information,

Honors Lecture Forum
The Honors Program presents honors Lecture Forum: "Water: Origin
and Destiny of Life" will have speaker Dr. Donald C. Johanson,
renowned Paleoanthropologist, Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bulpitt
Auditorium at Phoenix College, 1202 W. Thomas, in Phoenix.
Johanson discovered the 3.18 million-year-old skeleton "Lucy."

On March 21, Dr. Carl Sefina, researcher and conservationalist,
will speak on the potential for the regeneration of ocean life for
his lecture titled "Song For the Blue Ocean." Same time
and place as the above lecture.
Psychology Lecture
The Evening Lecture Series in Psychology will have speaker Danny
L. White, Psychology Associate II with the Arizona Department of
Corrections, March 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Navajo Room.
Whites presentation, "Battering: Breaking the Cycle of
Domestic Violence," will explain the four forms of battering,
the impact on children, the community, and extended family members;
and diagram the continuum and cycle of violence.

World Language Day
MCCs Foreign Language department is sponsoring its third annual
World Language Awareness Day Feb. 28, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and
6 to 8 p.m. at the Kirk Centers foyer and Navajo Room.
Activities and displays will spotlight the 13 languages taught at

Mesa Day Festival
The Mesa Day Parade, an annual miniature parade with floats, bands,
dance troupes and antique cars, will be March 3 from 10 to 11 a.m.
in Downtown Mesa.
It will spark the beginning of the Mesa Day Festival, a community
festival featuring games, rides, crafts, entertainment, and exhibits
from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Pioneer Park, 526 E. Main, in downtown

ASU World Festival
ASU will have a World Festival March 7, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30
p.m. on the Student Services Lawn on Main Campus in Tempe.
International students will provide entertainment, sell food and

Watercolor Art Exhibit
Waterworks, an invitational critique group of watercolor artists,
will exhibit a variety of watercolors in "H2O Commotion: Mixing
it Up," opening March 2 and running through April 1 at ASUs
Gammage Auditorium.
Gallery hours at Gammage are 1 to 4 p.m., Monday thorugh Friday.

"Goodbye, My Fancy!"
Auditions for "Goodbye My Fancy," a comedy by Fay Kanin
and directed by Lyn Dutson, will be March 7 and 8 from 3:30 to 5
p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Theatre Outbacks Green Room.
The play is about a former war correspondent turned liberal Congresswoman
who returns to her old college to receive an honorary Degree. Confronted
by illusions from the past, she must find a new love and a way into
her future.

Asian Film Festival
The ASU Spring Asian Film Festival features films from China, Japan,
Korea and the United States and will be shown Wednesdays at 7:30
p.m. in Room 101 of the Nursing Building on Main Campus, in Tempe.

Feb. 7
Two certified officers on patrol in the south and west parking lots
observed a white man operating a vehicle aimlessly. They approached
the vehicle and discovered that the driver was naked from the waist
down. The officers called Mesa police, who indicated that the man
had been arrested before for a similar violation and is a registered
sex offender.

To date, college officers have issued 344 citations and 672 written
warnings for parking violations this semster.
