Giant fans blow cool air into a stuffy dance room. Dancers pull back their hair and exhale, preparing themselves for yet another run-through of “It’s a Hard Knock Life” from the musical “Annie.”

For the time being, we shan’t underestimate the staying-power of Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears, for their continued presence leaves no indication that these sexy temptresses of pop music are going anywhere except the recording studio to feverishly punch out a few more follow-up albums before their 15 minutes are up.
