Women’s Cross Country
The eighth-ranked women’s cross country team has the top two runners in the Region I Division II championships, but finished in second place as the 12th-ranked Paradise Valley Community College edged out the T-Birds by one point.

Christina Sergi took first place in the 5,000-meter run in Tucson on Nov. 4, with a time of 20 minutes and 10.8 seconds. Tiffany Alexander finished in second place, just 16.9 seconds behind her teammate.

Freshmen Teddy Bailey and Rita Goodman finished in the top 10, earning all four runners a berth in the national meet which was held in Levelland, Texas, on Nov.18.

T-Bird runners needed to finish in the top 15 in Texas to earn All-American status. Sergi and Alexander did it in their sophomore season with Sergi taking 11, and Alexander finishing 13.

Men’s Cross Country
The MCC men’s cross-country team didn’t fare as well as the women in Tucson. The men took fourth place at the regional meet, which was dominated by PVCC.

The lone bright spot was freshman Calvin Fife, who ran the 8,000-meter run in 27 minutes and 32.2 seconds, earning him a sixth place finish. Fife was the only runner on the men’s team to qualify for the national meet, Nov. 18, where he finished 76th.

Women’s Soccer
Freshman sweeper Krista Hecker was named Player of the Year in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference, and NJCAA All-American. Hecker scored five goals during the season, but won the award for her tenacious defense.

Sophomore forward Kristen Purpura was named to the first-team ACCAC. She scored 17 goals and eight assists in 22 games.

Men’s Soccer
Sophomore Chris Marshburn, who played sweeper and goaltender, was named to the first-team ACCAC along with forward Alex Grecu. Greco led MCC in goals with 17.

Western States Football league.
