Affirmative reactionMESA LEGEND
Its rather unfortunate that Matt Freye, (Letter, "Affirmative Dissatisfaction, Dec. 12), doesnt understand affirmative action and its policy. Its not an attempt to make up for past mistakes, rather to level the playing field for all people maybe Matt is afraid of competition. Quoting Alan Keyes on affirmative action would be the equivalent of asking Rush Limbaugh his views on the benefits of modern liberalism in late 20th Century America. Newly appointed Secretary of State Colin Powell credits affirmative action for his opportunity and success within his stellar career, which includes serving as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. Matt seems to be focused on race, which shows his true ignorance on the issue. He doesnt realize the true benefactors of an affirmative action policy are women, yet I didnt see him mention women in his letter to the editor. Would he dare tread these turbulent waters of highly qualified women in professional life? Matt is either truly ignorant to affirmative action or he is only concerned about non-white persons receiving preferential treatment. In either case, he should be weary of what he says before throwing around words like "racist." Vince Enriquez, Back to Top | Previous Page | Home
