SPOTLIGHT
The Exhibition, "Norman Rockwell: Pictures for the American People,"
will be Jan. 27- May 6 at the Phoenix Art Museum, 1625 N. Central Ave.,
located on the Northeast corner of McDowell Road and Central Ave., in
Phoenix. It features the work of Rockwell spanning more than 60 years
of his career, including more than 70 oil paintings and all 322 covers
for The Saturday Evening Post. Hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday,
noon to 5 p.m.; Thursday, noon to 9 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m.
to 5 p.m.; closed Mondays and major holidays. For tickets and information,

MLK Student Rally
A Martin Luther King student rally with speakers, music and performances,
will be Jan. 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on ASU Main Campus at the
Orange Mall, directly north of the Administration A Wing and northwest

MLK Breakfast
ASUs annual Martin Luther King Breakfast will be Jan. 26 from
7 to 9 a.m. at Memorial Union on ASU Main Campus in Tempe.
School children from all over the state entered the MLK Jr. essay/poster/multimedia
contest, with the winners and their parents and teachers invited
to the breakfast. The winners receive savings bonds from ASU President
Lattie Coor and have their work displayed on the ASU campuses and

Transfer Information
Western International University will make a recruit visit to
MCC on Jan. 31 from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the MB Building. There
will be an information table set up and the university representative
will be present from 9:30 a.m to 1:30 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.
MCCs transfer center gives students the opportunity to learn
about other colleges and universities by having two or three schools

Open House
A Service Learning open house will take place Feb. 1 from noon

Blood Drive
United Blood Services will have a blood drive Feb. 5-6 from

Financial Aid Seminar
MCCs Multicultural Services will provide a Financial Aid
seminar for American Indian students Feb. 6 from 1 to 4:30 p.m.

College Goal Sunday
The fifth annual College Goal Sunday will be Feb. 11 at 2 p.m.
at the Navajo Room. Get help filling out the Free Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form needed to qualify for scholarships,
grants, and loans. Just bring your 1999 Federal Tax Return or other
income information and a local college/university financial aid

MCC Piano Festival
MCCs music department will hold a piano festival Jan.
27-28 at the Theatre Outback.
Ruth B. Yandell, MCC piano department coordinator, and David Murray,
MCC piano adjunct faculty member, will perform as a piano duo Jan.
27 at 7 p.m. Tickets will be $5 and all proceeds will be donated
to the MCC Scholarship Fund.
The solo and piano recital composed of MCC piano students will be
Jan. 28 at 3 p.m. It will be free and open to the public. For information

Romeo and Juliet
Southwest Shakespeare Company presents their winter production
of "The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet," Jan. 25-27 at 8
p.m. at Mountain View High School, 2700 E. Brown Road. in Mesa.

Fiddler on the Roof
"Fiddler on the Roof," starring Theodore Bikel, nine-time
Tony Award winner, comes to the Gammage Auditorium Jan. 30 through
Feb. 4 at 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 2 and 8 p.m. Satrurday,
and 2 and 7 p.m. Sunday.
Gammage Auditorium is located at Gammage Parkway and Mill Avenue
on ASU Main Campus, in Tempe. Tickets range from $19.75 to $54.75.

Contemporary Art
Contemporary Art Encounters: A "Brown-Bag" Lecture
Series, will take place Jan. 24 and Jan. 31 at noon at the Scottsdale
Museum of Contemporary Art, 7380 E. Second St. in Scottsdale.
Artists and scholars will enlighten, inform and entertain audience
members with insight into the art of the modern era. This event
is offered in conjunction with the Museum exhibitions, so come early,
browse though the galleries, then participare with the scholars
in an exploration of todays art, architecture and design.

Black History Exhibition
Black History Month will be celebrated through a juried exhibition
of Arizona African American two and three-dimensional artists Feb.
1-28 at ASU West Art Gallery. ASU West is at 4701 W. Thunderbird
Road. in Phoenix, and the gallery is located at the University Center
Bulding in Room 228.
A reception will be Feb. 7 from 5 to 7 p.m. Gallery hours are Monday
through Friday, noon to 3 p.m., and Tuesdays are also open from

Network Nights
Network Nights, a free lecture and discussion forum offering the
most current topics in network administration issues and certification
requirements, will feature Linda Fitzgerald, an Internet Security
Administrator for Global Crossing in Phoenix Jan. 31 from 6:30 to
8 p.m. at MCCs Business and Industry Institute, 145 N. Centennial
Way in downtown Mesa, just east of the public library.
Fitzgeralds presentation will include the process of encryption,
what the current trends are, and some of the surrounding legal issues
that are arising with the use of encryption. For information, call

Civil Rights Movement
ASUs Black History Month Distinguished Scholar Series
begins with a lecture by Darlene Clark Hine and John A. Hannah,
professor of American History at Michigan State University, on "Black
Professional Class and Racial Consolidation: Origins of the Civil
Rights Movement," Feb. 1 at 7:30 p.m. at Katzin Concert Hall,
located in ASUs Music Building on Mill Avenue and Apache Road,

Information provided by MCC College Safety
Dec. 20, 2000
A student called college safety to report a child in a vehicle
in the Northeast parking lot. The caller said that the mother left
the child in the vehicle for approximately 30 minutes before the
call. Officers arrived to find the windows open and the child content.
A few minutes later, the mother arrived.
Dec. 21
A student called college safety to report her wallet was stolen
from the Kirk Center.
Dec. 28
A construction worker reported the theft of $200 worth of paving
equipment.
Jan. 5, 2001
Cash was stolen from a staff members purse, which had
been left unsecured in the LA Buildings restroom.
