Faculty Observing and Scrutinizing

What do you think about this?

This past December John Walker Lindh, 20, was captured by U.S. forces. Walker, a student in Pakistan who was an American citizen was a member of the Al-Quaida militia of the Taliban. The question now arises as to how to charge Walker. Do we charge him with treason, America’s highest crime, punishable by death? Or, do we charge him with aiding a known terrorist group, a lesser crime, punishable by about 10 years in federal prison? We asked faculty around campus what their thoughts were on the subject.

"I don’t know enough about the case to make that sort of judgment call."
Gene Fazio English
"The only way to answer that is to know exactly what his involvement was. My guess would be for the lower charge because of the burden of proof."
Dr. Barry Vaughan Philosophy
"...Aiding. As an American citizen he was free to go where he wanted. And he didn’t join another country’s military, he didn’t commit treason."
Mark Neeley Math
