Guns on MCC campus?

Pro
line

Arming Certified Campus Safety Officers would probably not be a first choice for the majority.

In most cases, weapons do not belong in a place of education, stressing “in most cases.”

Now is a time when the psychology of war should be looked at very closely.

Some may say arming Safety Officers could put a new spin on this vicious circle, which is a viable argument.

In the same breath, many students at this very moment are carrying concealed weapons in their backpacks and the people who are being paid to help make this place of education a safe institution are not armed.

Guns do not kill people.

People kill people.

Only Safety Officers certified to carry weapons will be armed, if this measure is to be passed.

Putting criminals and officers that are on campus on equal playing grounds would be the best way to deter a possible violent act from escalating into an out of control situation.

As of this moment the only people who are armed illegally on this campus are students.

It would only make sense to enable the officers, which are here to protect students and faculty, to fully carry out their jobs.

If the arming of Security Officers is voted down, what are they supposed to use against an armed assailant, bad words?

In light of the U of A incident last year and terrorist acts, hitting too close to home, who is to say where these atrocities will end.

Since there has been no need in the past for armed security on this campus, would it be better to wait until it is too late and lives are lost, that could have possibly been saved?

What price would we have to pay for an overly optimistic outlook on the nations situation?

The country is being advised to stock up on food, water, and supplies; so why should we not take every measure to ensure the safety of the future of this country by arming college officers?

Though these retired officers are not on the police force any longer they still have the skill and knowledge to appropriately handle a weapon.

Unfortunately, we, as a society can not count on a safe environment without doing what we can to ensure our right to be secure.

School campuses across the nation have become associated with violence in the minds of many thus leading to the idea that school safety officers should carry guns to ensure the safety of America’s students.

However, arming safety officers offers little more than the perception of security if anything at all.

The upcoming vote to determine whether or not Certified Campus Safety Officers will be permitted to carry firearms is an opportunity not to increase student safety, but to fight the mentality that aligns school and violence.
Armed safety officers are unnecessary.

In the history of this campus not one incident has arisen that made a firearm necessary.
Although this is a preventative measure, what are we sacrificing for that just-in-case scenario?

Everywhere we go we face the possibility of violence. In our own homes, in the grocery store, in every parking lot, every moment of every day our safety could be compromised.

Do we demand officers with guns to stand guard because the possibility of harm exists?

Of course not. That would be paranoia.

Nothing can guarantee protection.

What we can do is focus on increasing preventative measures that would come into play long before the need for a gun. Crimes will still occur.

Campuses are not immune to the outside world.

Students must make a stand against the fear that is quickly seizing humanity.

We are not safe and will be no safer with armed safety officers.

Most crimes on campus could not have been prevented by an armed officer because most of the time one wasn’t present at the time of the offense.

Guns on campus do nothing more than provide the community with a false sense of security.

Rather than contributing to this way of thinking, we should not permit firearms on campus.

Guns would be more effective if we stop them from coming onto campus.

Students should demand a separation between the idea of violence from institutes of education, beginning with not arming officers.
