Miguel MendezSpotlight  On Feb. 13 MCC was host to a remarkable speaker. Miguel Mendez is a world renowned author and professor at the University of Arizona.

What makes Mendez so remarkable is the fact that he is a self made man.

Eat green eggs and ham
In celebration of the late Dr. Seuss's birthday MCC L.E.A.D.S. is sponsoring a party and book fair. The festivities will kick off on March 3, at 9 a.m. and will run through March 6.

Evening Lecture Series
If looking beyond the surface is your game than you will want to attend Bob Johnson's lecture entitled "Searching for the psychology in Shakespeare, Van Gogh, the Bible, and Rush Limbaugh." The lecture will take placeon March 11 from 7-9 p.m. in the Navajo Room in the Kirk Center on MCC's Southern and Dobson campus.

Decalogue
Paradise Valley Community College's center for International Studies presents Decalogue as part of the spring 2003 New Horizons Film Festival. Parts one and two will be showing on Feb. 27 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the AMC Desert Ridge, on Tatum just north of the 101. The remaining episodes will show on March 13, and 27, April 10 and 24.

Film Festival
It's not too late to celebrate Black history month. MCC's Black Student Union has been showing films all month long in honor of Black history month. "Sankofa" is the first of the remaining films, and will show on Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. "Making a Global Difference: My Sojourn through South Africa" is the finale’ to the event and will be shown on Feb. 28 at noon. Admission is free, and both screenings will be in the Navajo Room in the Kirk Center on MCC's main campus.

In the Mood for Art?
Phoenix's own Heard Museum is celebrating our state's rich heritage with the 45th annual Guild Indian Fair and Market. On March 1–2 the festival will celebrate by showcasing art work, Native American music and dance performances, book signings, art demonstrations, code talkers, and Native foods. There will be activities for all ages.

Improvisational Coffee
If drinking coffee and laughing is your idea of a great Friday night then drop by the Storyteller Café. "Off the Cuff," an improvisational group, entertains patrons with their unpredictable antics every second and fourth Friday of the month, at the Storyteller Café which is located at 2655 W. Guadalupe Rd. in Mesa.

Video Contest
Creative types that love making video will want to enter the 16th annual Christopher video contest. The Christophers is a nonprofit organization that uses print and electronic media to encourage individuals to raise the standard of public life. Prizes include cash awards of up to $3000.

Art Festival Seeks Artists
If you are artistic and want to show your stuff, then the San Tan Arts Festival is for you. The festival will take place on Sat April 12. Those interested in having booths or for more information call Pam Schuler at 480-732-7152.

Scholarship
The Asian Pacific Islanders Association is offering a scholarship to API students who are transferring to Arizona State University. A partnership was formed among the AIPA and ASU's Asian American Student Scholarship to offer three transfer students fee waivers, valued at approximately $2500.

FEB. 3
At 10:30 a.m. a student suffered an apparent seizure during class in the SC building. She remained unconscious for several minutes. Mesa Fire paramedics treated her at the scene and had her transported to Desert Samaritan Hospital by ambulance.

FEB. 4
At 11:25 a.m. a student suffered an apparent seizure in the MU building. She was conscious and alert upon arrival of College Safety personnel. She refused medical treatment.

FEB. 6
At 11:19 a.m. two male subjects were interrupted by a College safety officer as they attempted to steal a tachometer from a black Honda CRX in the parking lot of the TC building. A student officer had been advised of the two suspicious males and as he watched them from a distance they forced entry into the Honda with a pry tool. Before a certified officer and Mesa Police could be notified, the suspects observed the student officer and fled the area. Mesa Police attempted to locate the vehicle in the area with out success.

FEB. 7
Between 11:00 A.M. and noon person(s) unknown entered three vehicles in the parking lot of the Country Club and Brown campus by using a pry tool and removed stereo equipment from each vehicle.

FEB. 14
At 3:20 p.m. a Compaq laptop computer was reported stolen from the Financial Aid office sometime between the afternoon of Feb. 13 and Feb. 14.

FEB. 18
At 6:20 p.m. a student reported a blue Jansport backpack was stolen from the bookstore between 1:05 and 1:15 P.M. by person(s) unknown. The backpack contained sign language 101 and Math 092 books and a purse containing identification.

At 7:17 p.m. College Safety and Mesa Fire responded to a BP classroom regarding an injured person. It was determined that the student's chair broke as she was sitting down. She fell backwards, striking her head on a wall. She was treated by paramedics.
