Girl Repellent
takes Valley by storm
By Matt Mueller
For the Mesa Legend
Over the past five years Girl
Repellent has been spreading their own brand of listener friendly pop-punk
across the valley. The boys got their first taste of a live audience at
the Electric Ballroom in the summer of 1996 with local talent Authority
Zero and widely known MxPx, and have not looked back. Carrying their momentum
from a strong start, they have played hundreds of shows at nearly every
venue in Phoenix. The local scene is very strong right now, we are
glad to be a part of it said Chris Kolb (drums).

Girl Repellent shows are a more than just
another run of the mill punk show, seeing them perform feels like hanging
out with them.
During song breaks Jordan Warner (guitar/ vocals) often tells jokes and
teases the other band members.
Their strong stage presence is strongly linked to the energetic music
they play. There is always something worth watching, from the standard
jumps and kicks to spitting on one another.
If you have to put a label on their music it would be pop-punk, only because
of the fast drum beats, driving guitar, and bass. But this group spices
things up with more melodic vocals and heavy metal style guitar solos.
Their tales of heartbreak are crafted from their everyday experiences
and encounters with friends, family and strangers. When asked what things
he writes about Jordan Warner simply said What ever it takes to
get by.
The band released their second full length album, The Longer You Wait,
last January, which has sold out. Recognition was received for the single
823 in the form of radio play on The Edge. Because
their second CD is out of print the boys hand out burned copies of the
sophomore release to awaiting fans at their shows. Currently the foursome
is working on a third album to be released later this year.
Girl Repellent can be seen every sixth Thursday at The Buzz as part of
their Ska/Punk night. For information on up coming show dates, silly pictures
and mp3s, check out www.Girlrepellent.com and hopefully the boys will
see you at the show!
