New student government
takes office

Under the leadership of the newly appointed president, Bonnie Capen, the ASMCC has begun planning for next year.

A main objective for MCC’s student government is to bolster civic involvement.

“We are really looking to increase community participation,” said Capen.

She said that there are numerous opportunities available for anyone to volunteer and to increase their awareness of diversity.

Bringing more attention to Career Reentry, Student Services, and Transfer Services are all priorities for ASMCC.

“A lot of our students have no idea what most of these programs can offer.”

Capen pointed out that Student Services provides bus passes and ASMCC offers free legal advice from a lawyer for any student who needs it.

Other plans include the addition of a MCC teacher rating system that would follow suit with other colleges around the country, and would be similar to the evaluations found at the website ratemyprofessor.com.

Also on next year’s agenda is a push for more collaborative space like that found in the math building, an eased enrollment process, and an increased involvement with night students.

Although the elections are over, ASMCC is still looking for commisioners or anyone who would like to be involved in student government.
