Businesses that cater to gay and lesbian customers, as well as local businesses that wanted to offer their support to Phoenix’s homosexual community, took the opportunity to show off their flair at the parade. Above, Hamburger Mary’s, a popular restaurant had drag queen “Mary” for the crowd’s entertainment. Dance club, Boom, took the dance floor to the street complete with men to fill the stage.

Rainbow shirts marked volunteers that walked on the side of the parade passing out candy to both children and adults.

Bright Mardi-Gras beads were tossed from people on floats to the people that lined the street.

“I just came out here to support my friends,” student Jofrin Pezzati explained, although he is not gay he came to enjoy the day, “It represents my individuality and my commitment to personal freedom.”

Many traditional families brought their children to enjoy the parade and to support other families with an alternative structure.
