The men’s tennis team has been striving to reach the top.

MCC men's tennis team

This season’s team consists of six freshmen with only two sophomores to help lead the way.

The team has kept their title as Division Champs for two consecutive years.

The T-birds are currently ranked 10th in the nation amongst community colleges with an overall record of 17–1.

Team member Andre Schlessinger has helped the team a great deal.

He finished first, leading the conference championships.
The men’s tennis team will be competing in a national competition in Texas May 11–18.

Coach Becky Opoien, has been named Coach of the Year and is extremely proud of her team.

“Our team has been working hard since September, and it is showing” she said. “We couldn’t have asked for a much different season.”

The women’s tennis team is also heading to Texas under the leadership of head coach Penny Powell.

MCC women's tennis team

This MCC team is no stranger to national competition; this will be their 4th consecutive year participating in the countrywide event.

With Powell are seven women consisting of two sophomores and five freshmen.

Sophomores Quinlan Hatch and Kathryn Prince will be pairing for doubles.

Contributing greatly to this season’s success is freshman player Sarah Reimer, who will continue with MCC next season.

“I’m thrilled, it’s a pleasure to have her on the team. She is one of the best I have seen in 29 years of coaching” said Coach Powell.

Hard work and dedication since September is paying off for the girls.

They are ranked first regionally and sixth nationally, loosing only to Pima.

“The team is ready for Nationals” said Powell. “They’ve had an excellent season, and are ready to finish the same way.”
