First
strike equals safety
Michelle Gilligan
News Editor
As America heals, and recovers from the one-year anniversary of the terrorist
attacks on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, we can only dread what the
future may hold.
Every citizen hopes for a safe future, our country's biggest threat is
happening without our knowledge.
Saddam Hussein at this very moment is continuing to produce weapons of
mass destruction directly aimed at our very own homes, claims the Bush
Administration.
He loathes America as he has openly stated for numerous years.
But the difference in this war against terrorism is the fact that this
man is not fighting for a cause but plain hatred, and he has the ability
to succeed.
With over 400,000 active troops, 1,900 tanks, 2,400 armored personnel
carriers, 1,900 wheeled guns, and 300 combat aircrafts, Iraqi soldiers
stand behind their ruler and are not only prepared, but also willing to
die for their country.
Hussein is more of a danger now, than we ever imagined.
He does not check race or the gender of his victims; he just pushes the
button hoping for completion.
He has been testing chemical warfare on his own people for years.
He makes weapons filled with anthrax and other chemicals, leaving the
Arabian men, women and children limbless or mutilated for his greater
gain.
According to the BBC, Hussein is reportedly responsible for the deaths
of 70,000-150,000 Kurds in 1989, including 5,000 in nerve gas attacks.
We must stop this man before he makes the first strike on the US.
Many will say war is not the answer and a compromise should be worked
out.
We have made many attempts to compromise but he has refused to comply
with anything the United Nations and the US proposes.
We may not know when or if he will attack, but in the meantime he will
continue to put great fear in Americans.
We must take this time to worry about ourselves and our children.
What kind of world will be left for them when a biochemical cocktail clears
out most of our land and contaminates our water sources?
The steps to stop this man are beginning, and with the full support of
the nation, we can end the inevitable.
If this man has apprehensions about the fact that the children of his
own country resemble radiation victims, how do you think he will treat
the Americans whom he has hated his entire life.
How many children are we going to allow him to sacrifice, bomb and starve
before we do something.
Are we comfortable with the thought of this man coming into our country
and running us like he runs his own people.
Could you live with yourself knowing your daughter no longer has the choice
to be the doctor or the lawyer she wants to be or your son is now apart
of a military troop that is trained to kill upon orders no matter woman
or child.
