The ideals I am speaking of are peace and prosperity of the American dream. As of this moment the United States has put a hold on attacking Iraq. The U.N. weapons inspectors were recently given permission by Iraq to investigate their ability to produce weapons and current stock of death machines. Bush stated in a recent speech the answer to future terror attacks is war. In a rushed, private meeting it was decided once again; combat is the solution. The possibility of attacking Iraq in the future is still at hand. Wait a minute did we not just have a war? The status of Bin Laden is unknown, too many lives from both sides of the line are lost, and here we are continuing an unaccomplished battle. Bush stated in his speech these military actions will have no great losses because thousands of disposable soldiers are at hand. I did not know that a human life was disposable. Those who are fighting, risk their lives for everyone's freedom including their own. I thought America was supposed to promote freedom and peace not strife and violence. Though peace and firm justice should be primary, promotion of trigger happy citizens would make for a violent and dysfunctional society. Will starting a war create peace and intimidation or will it spark greater hostility along with launching even more conflict? If we attack Saddam we will be violating international law, we have not been directly attached by Saddam or his country. If we are faced with the drastic actions of war, are we really prepared for the eminent and grave consequences? Countries around the world are not with us concerning this possible violation. Innuendoes of a third world war have been, indirectly, whispered. Let us look back to former President George Bush Sr. when Saddam Hussein's assassination attempt failed. Bush Sr. was not re-elected and not able to retaliate. Currently, Bush Jr. was told by his father that war on Saddam is necessary. Is this a son carrying out his father's unfinished business? One must wonder. Do not misunderstand, something should be done and quickly. Some would say war is the only answer. I must reiterate; there is a medium which few have tried. We need to use our heads and strength of unity to reveal the hidden pacific message behind these trying times before the leaders of our nation send the nukes flying. Flexing our "democratic" muscles would make it so easy to drop the bomb and perpetuate this countries tough guy reputation. Is this not this same reputation that some countries use to justify their animosity towards the United States? I think our first military approach should be firmly and justifiably planned so no country can place "bully" on our shoulders, for the moment. Saving violent justice as our last resort allows us room to be the good guy. There is power in being feared but there is more power in being respected. Humanity was violated on Sept. 11. By bringing the guilty to justice and avoiding innocent deaths of soldiers and civilians, peace and the American Dream will remain intact.
