District Writing Contest
Any student enrolled for credit at Maricopa Community Colleges is eligible to enter the District Creative Writing Competition. Prizes range from $100-$300.

Live Music
Enjoy the 9th Annual Music Fest hosted by the Phoenix Girls Chorus at 7 p.m. on Oct. 19 at the Orpheum Theater. Admission is $10.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
Celebrate the upcoming holidays of Halloween and Dia de los Muertos with a retelling of Washington Irving's "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" at the Mesa Arts Center Theater starting Oct. 18 and running until Nov. 3.


Clasped hands General Assistance
How's Your Blood Pressure?
If you don't know find out on Oct. 16 when student nurses will be doing blood pressure screening on campus at five different locations.The stations will be open at 9:30 a.m. and run until 11:30 a.m.

Career Expo
Find work at the Career Expo, sponsored by Career Reentry Services. Seek work from a variety of employers in front of the Kirk Center on Oct.16 from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. Bring your resume!


Books Learning
Go Medieval
Learn what a class was like in medieval times with a lecture entitled, "In a Medieval Schoolroom." Professor of History at the University of Exeter, England, Nicholas Orme, will present the lecture at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 22 in the Great Hall in Armstrong Hall at the ASU College of Law.

Native American Recognition Days
The Native American Recognition Days Film Festival will be taking place on Oct. 18 and 19 at Neeb Hall on the ASU Main Campus. Tickets will be available at the door on Friday and Saturday, on a first come, first serve basis.

Community Service and Free Food
Come to Navajo Room of the Kirk Center on Oct. 19 at 7:30 a.m. for a free continental breakfast followed by an afternoon of going into the community and volunteering with local agencies on current projects.

Latino Town Hall
Explore issues impacting the Latino community of Mesa at the Latino Town Hall. The free event will provide lunch, but requires pre-registration. Date of event is Oct. 19 and takes place at Word of Grace Church from 7:30 a.m.–3 p.m.

Dialogue Day
International Education is presenting the second of its Dialogue Days lecture series. This upcoming lecture is entitled "Discovering the Real Religions of Mexico," and will be presented by Thomas Shoemaker. The event takes place in the Kiva Room of the Kirk Center on Oct. 23 from noon–1:15 p.m.

Sept. 5
A staff member reported that a cabinet was pried open in the AC office, possibly during the previous day. No items are known to be missing from the cabinet and there is no suspect information.

Sept. 9
At 9:58 a.m. two students were involved in a minor non-injury accident in the southeast parking lot.

Sept. 11
A custodian turned over two ladies wallets found in a trash can at the LA building. Investigation revealed that the wallets were reported stolen the previous day from a business in Tempe. College safety returned the wallets to the owners.

Sept. 12
A female student became ill in the LA rest rooms as a result of a diabetic reaction. She was treated by the Mesa Fire Department and transported to Desert Samaritan Hospital by ambulance.

Sept. 12
A male student reported that sometime between 7:10 and 10:20 a.m. his 1997 black Honda Accord was stolen from lot C.
Mesa police responded and took a report. There is no suspect information available.

Sept. 13
A female student reported that she was approached in lot E the previous day at approximately 1:30 p.m. by a male who was exposing himself. The male is described as a Caucasian in his early 20's with short black hair and a dark tan. His identity remains unknown.

Sept. 17
College Safety was notified of a male non-student at the Health Improvement Center wearing no pants. The subject was in possession of a jar containing a large quantity of loose quarters.
He could give no plausible explanation for his presence on campus or the origin of the quarters. Mesa police responded and determined that the subject had two outstanding felony warrants. He was arrested and transported from the campus.

Sept. 17
In mid-morning seven vehicles were broken into at the Red Mountain Campus. Stereos, amplifiers, CD's and a small amount of cash were taken.
A possible suspect vehicle is described as a white full size Doge pickup, with extended cab occupied by a Caucasian male driver.

Sept. 17
A student reported that her car was struck and damaged by another vehicle in lot A between 6:20 and 7:50 p.m. The driver of the other vehicle left the area without reporting the accident or leaving any information.
