Oct. 25
At 1 p.m. in the Zuni Room at The Kirk Student Center there is a
MCC faculty reading.
At 3 p.m. in the Library Reading Room (2nd floor), hear poetry read
by published author Peggy Shumaker.
At 5 p.m. there is a "Happy Hour" open mic reading at Undici
Undici (1111 S. Longmore).
At 7:30 p.m there will be Readings by author Sven Birkerts and hypermedia
artist Jennifer Ley, followed by a book signing in the Library Reading
Room (2nd floor).
Oct. 26
At 1 p.m. in the Zuni Room at The Kirk Student Center there will be
Readings by MCC creative writing students.
At 2 p.m. in the Zuni Room at The Kirk Student Center there will Readings
by Native American author Laura Tohe along with author/musician Jed
Allen.
At 4 p.m., at Undici Undici (1111 S. Longmore) "Poetry & Blues,"
will be presented by Jim Simmerman, Ann Cummins, Jed Allen (piano),
& John Willis (bass).
At 7:30 p.m. in The Library Reading Room (2nd floor) a reading/performance
by Joy Harjo and her band will take place along with a book signing
and reception.
District Writing Contest
Any student enrolled for credit at Maricopa Community Colleges is eligible
to enter the District Creative Writing Competition. Prizes range from
$100-$300. Categories include, Creative Non-Fiction, Short Story, Poetry,
and a One-Act Play. Entries are due Nov. 8. For more information, visit

Live Music
Enjoy the 9th Annual Music Fest hosted by the Phoenix Girls Chorus at
7 p.m. on Oct. 19 at the Orpheum Theater. The event will feature a variety
of music performed by artists from around the Valley, including the
Phoenix Girls Chorus. Admission is $10, for tickets call the Civic Plaza

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
Celebrate the upcoming holidays of Halloween and Dia de los Muertos
with a retelling of Washington Irving's "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow."
The production is entitled "El Jinete Sin Cabeza," and takes
place at the Mesa Arts Center Theater on Fridays at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays
at 4:30 p.m. starting Oct. 18 and running until Nov. 3. For more information,
