Poetry collection reflects poets’ stance against war

Jan. 27 brought the release of “100 Poets Against the War,” a collection of poems aimed at peace. Poets from various countries around the world submitted works to be included in the anthology set to be released on the same day Hans Blix delivered his weapons inspections report to the United Nations. The collection of poems was announced on January 20, providing just one week for poets around the world to unite in their stand against impending war. The anthology is free to all through the internet at www.nthposition.com. Todd Smith, editor, encourages everyone to “download, host, share, swap, print, and copy, this powerful book of poems.”

Electricians improve safety of students & staff

MCC’s electrician Dan Newkirk

MCC’s electrician Dan Newkirk continues his work to improve the safety of the campus. Here Newkirk can be seen drilling holes into the 200 pound manhole cover so they can be lifted with a forklift. This will increase the safety of workers. Newkirk also pointed out the new lighting on campus. He hoped to add additional lighting to improve the safety of students at night, but funding fell short. Work on the lights will continue as soon as financial support permits.

Young Democrat-Socialists return to MCC’s campus

The Young Democrat Socialists’ club on campus shut down a year ago when leader, Ryan Tapscott left for ASU. Tapscott’s return brings the Young Democrat Socialists back to MCC. The club still needs to submit a petition before it is officially recognized, political science professor Brian Dille has agreed to serve as the group’s advisor. The group is not a political party, but rather a grassroots organization focused on working within the system to change the system. For info contact Tapscott by e-mail at juste80@mail.com.
