T-Bird Briefs


Football

Sept. 5 at Air Force Academy
Colorado Springs, Colo.
Air Force Academy 58, MCC 35
This season opener was unsuccessful despite hard efforts put forth by the Thunderbirds.
Coach Dan Dunn said that the team “practiced to stop the run, they took us by surprise throwing the ball.”
Quarterback Greg Mortensen threw for a total of 140 yards and 2 TDs. Ryan Russler completed 12 of 19 for 179 yards and 3 TDs.
Receiver Steve Kennedy had 11 receptions for 151 yards and 2 TDs. Jeff McKane received 2 TDs, and one was caught by Jacob Richardson.
Dillon Yates and Justin Douglas both had 10 tackles, Brad Brittian and Yimin Bauman each had 7, Joseph Tomanogi had 6.
Rusler stated “We fought throught the whole game and never gave up”

Women’s Soccer

Aug. 23 vs. Pima Community College
MCC 6, PCC 1

Kristina Burris’ performance was exceptional, scoring 4 points. Natalie Peterson and Verena Andrade each had one.

Aug. 27 vs. Chandler Gilbert Community College
CGCC 3, MCC 2

The Thunderbirds fell in overtime despite goals scored by Kristina Burris and Natalie Nunamaker.

Sept. 3 at Scottsdale Community College
MCC 12, SCC 0

The Thunderbirds killed the Artichokes in the away game shut-out. This was goalkeeper Megan Cyr’s second shut-out of the season. Kristina Burris lead the team with 5 points, Alli Landon followed with two. Bridget Barrasso, Natalie Nunamaker, Verena Andrade, Rachel Crawford, and Lauren Thomas all scored one.

Sept. 6 at Paradise Valley Community College
MCC 1, PVCC 0

Danielle Broadfoot claimed the only point scored throughout the game.

Sept. 10 at South Mountain Community College
MCC , SMCC

Rachel Crawford scored one goal and had two assists. Alli Landon had a goal and an assist, Stefanie Prouty and Vanessa Andrade each scored one. This win brought their record to 4-1.
