Spotlight   Feeling a little low? Having trouble keeping your head above water? Scream S.O.S. The first year of this organization has been brought together to help new or returning students in just these types of situations. Student Opportunities for Success is in its first year of operation and moving along strong. A new lecture will take place Sept. 18 and will be held in the Kiva Room at Kirk Center. Kathryn “Cookie” Zulia will be presenting, “It’s Not How Smart You Are, It’s How Smart You Study.”

Looking to the sky...
Gazing mindlessly into the stars above is the most relaxing of activities. Join the fun and take a trip down to Estrella Mountain Park on 147th Avenue for a stargazing event like no other.


Arts   Theatre
Sept. 10 and be running until Oct 1, showing a compilation of four different films.
Although this event is being held at Arizona State University, all are invited to attend, and with no cover charge it is a sure bet for some entertainment.

Aug. 6
A student’s 1996 white Isuzu pickup was forcibly entered as it was parked at the Red Mountain campus in the lot at Acacia Village. An in-dash stereo was removed from the vehicle by unknown suspect(s). Mesa PD responded and took a report.

Aug. 8
A College Safety officer at Red Mountain campus discovered that person(s) unknown had pried open the northeast gate at Acacia Village and attempted to break into a soda machine. The machine was damaged but no entry was made.

Aug. 21
A student reported the theft of his black 1995 Lexus SC400 from lot “C.” Sometime between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. by an unknown suspect(s). A report was made with the Mesa PD.

Aug. 21
College Safety officers responded to the AD building on a report of an ill person. A 32-year-old student wa apparently suffering from symptoms of heat stroke. Mesa Fire Department paramedics were summoned and treated the student.
He refused medical transport and was advised to seek additional treatment on his own.

Aug. 23
College Safety officers responded to a van parked in lot “J” and discovered a female non-student and her infant child inside. Both appeared to be suffering symptoms of heat stroke.
Mesa Fire Department paramedics responded and transported them to Desert Samaritan Hospital for further examination.

Aug. 25
A minor non-injury accident involving students occurred in lot “C.” College Safety officers facilitated exchange of information between the two drivers. Both drivers left with undamaged cars.

Aug. 26
A student reported the theft of his red 1997 Nissan pick up truck from lot “C.” The owner parked the vehicle around 11:30 a.m. and discovered it missing at 2 p.m. A report was also made to the Mesa
PD.

Aug. 31
New parking lot signs have been installed in all parking areas. The signs are lettered begining with A and following through to the letter L.
This new added enhancement should help new students around campus more efficiently and aide in helping returning students find their vehicles faster.
