Suspect nabbed in $300,000 aid fraud

A 62-year-old MCC student is awaiting trial on account of more than $300,000 he allegedly swindled from the government in the form of financial aid.
By using the identities of 50 prisoners, John Christensen is accused of fraudulently obtaining money from Maricopa County and other college districts.

“This school is ridiculous.”
“There’s got to be a more efficient way of doing this.”
“Their nursing department may be good, but they obviously don’t know how to organize worth (expletive deleted).”
“I’m going to Gateway.”
These were some of the less-than-favorable comments being spoken by MCC students waiting in front of the nursing building.

Group aims to retain Native Americans

A pilot program has been re-launched on campus this year by the name of Native Cousins.
The program, designed to help Native American students, was originally established in 1999 by Loretta Damon.
The program sat dormant for a year or so due to budgeting and demand.
