T-Birds’ Briefs

Volleyball

Oct. 1 at Pima Community College
MCC 3, PCC 0
Cassie Campbell had 26 assists and 20 digs for the MCC lady Thunderbirds. Lauren Revert pitched in with 11 kills while Dominique Altamirane had 11 digs. Meghan Julander had 7 kills and 19 digs.

Oct. 3 at South Mountain Community College
MCC 3, SMCC 0
Meghan Julander led the Thunderbirds with 12 kills and 23 digs. Defensive specialist Hayden Johnson had 21 digs. Lauren Revert had 11 kills, 8 digs, and 2 blocks. Cassie Campbell added 28 assists and 10 digs.

Football

Sept. 27 at Eastern Arizona Thatcher, AZ
TA 31, MCC 28
The Mesa Community College football team had a total of 491 offensive yards while Eastern Arizona had 374 in this close game for the Thunderbirds. MCC rushed for a total of 214 yards and held Eastern Arizona to 27. The Thunderbirds had trouble on defense against the pass, giving up 347 passing yards.
MCC quarterback Greg Mortensen threw 15 for 30 with one interception.
Wide receiver Jacob Richardson caught 7 passes for a total of 71 yards.
Yimin Bauman and Truman Todd lead defensively. Rodney Burnes pitched in on defense with an interception.
Coach Dan Dunn said, “Offensively we need to keep doing what we’re doing and just keep down on turnovers.”
MCC’s Truman Todd was dissappointed with the loss and added, “It starts in practice. We need to play harder and faster in practice so we do well in the games.”
