The horizon is bright as The Mesa Literary Festival is set to begin this year in full force. From Oct. 24 to Oct. 25 this event will feature many talented teachers and artists ranging from poets to musicians. Almost half of the featured guests hail from Arizona and will awe audiences with their ability in the arts. The guests will include Jed Allen, a creative writing teacher from Phoenix College; Ann Cummins, a published writer who also teaches creative writing at Northern Arizona University; along with another guest, Jim Simmerman.

The Community Economic Development Alliance, Inc. (CEDA), a non-profit organization affiliated with St. Mary’s Food Bank, is holding a canned food drive. They will be accepting canned foods and clothes on Nov. 1.

All aboard...
Off the Cuff, an improvisational company of Mesa Youth Theatre, is moving locations. The new home of this show will be Mesa Arts Center, room 10, in Mesa.

The world religion film festival will take place for the rest of the semester every Thursday from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. in the BP 4 room.

Arizona lecture...
The Arizona Deaf Lecture Series will be taking place in the Navajo Room on Nov. 4. The hours of operation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. For more information please contact (480) 461-7447.

Sept. 24
A delayed report of a
medical situation was received from the Centennial Way extended campus. On Sept. 22 at 9:36 p.m. an instructor discovered a student facedown and unconscious outside a classroom.
The instructor rendered aid until Mesa Fire Department paramedics arrived. The student was transported to Mesa Lutheran Hospital by ambulance.

Sept. 24
A female student made a comment to a female driving a vehicle in Lot A concerning the driver’s reckless driving. The passenger in that vehicle exited the car pushed and punched the student in apparent effort to provoke a fight.
The passenger then re-entered her vehicle and left the area. The student was able to remember the license plate number and provided it to Mesa police for follow-up investigation.

Sept. 27
A student in physical education class began feeling ill and complaining of severe abdominal pain. Mesa Fire paramedics responded and treated the student. She refused further medical care and was taken home by a friend.

Sept. 30
A student reported that she left her purse unattended in an AS Hallway at approximately 11:50 a.m. When she returned a few minutes later, the purse was gone.
At 12:40 p.m. a College Safety officer found the purse, less $30 cash, in a trashcan south of the LA building. No suspect(s) are known.

Oct. 1
Two non-students were assaulted in Lot “I” by a female subject known to them. The injuries were minor and did not require medical treatment. Mesa Police will follow up on this case.
