Gaskin settles with district
On Oct. 9, the Maricopa Community Colleges District Governing Board concluded
the final chapter of its legal dispute with former chancellor Fred Gaskin.
In a 5 to 0 vote, the board agreed on a settlement that would finalize
Gaskin’s termination.
Gaskin was under contract with the district until June of 2006. This contract
guaranteed him an annual salary of almost $200,000 in addition to medical
insurance, vacation time, automobile expenses, and other incurred costs.
In order to buy out Gaskin’s contract, the district would have to
hand over an amount exceeding $620,000.
Gaskin will receive compensation totaling over $325,000.
In exchange for the settlement, Gaskin agreed to waive his rights to take
legal action against the district and a non-admission clause.
