Welcome…
The 13th Annual Lorraie W. Frank lecture in humanities is being held Oct. 30 in the Pulliam Auditorium at the Burton Barr Central Library.
The event, which has many guest speakers each year, will feature Martin E. Marty covering The Menacing Faiths of Strangers. In direct connection with the Arizona Humanities Council (AHC) this event will recognize award recipients and have a book signing.
There is no charge for this lecture or the reception following, but advance registration is required. For more information please contact the AHC at (602) 257-0335.

Deadline is approaching…
The annual MCCD Creative Writing Competition has begun and is now accepting applications for four different categories: poetry, short story, creative nonfiction and one-act play.
The deadline is at 12 p.m. Nov. 7. All entries must include an entry form located in the English department office All entries must be turned directly into James Cervantes, the creative writing coordinator.

Rally with you…
The Thunderbird Rally will take place on Oct. 31. The event will be hosted by the ASMCC and will be on the Kirk Center lawn from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. For more information please contact (480) 461-7419.

Take flight…
The Veterans Day Fly-in and Community Expo will take place Nov. 8 through Nov. 9. Using C.A.F.’s new 30,000-square-foot Aviation Museum and Meeting Facility should help keep the crowds slim.
The gates will be open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The event is located on 2017 N. Greenfield Road, and admission is only $5.
This will include a tour through Sentimental Journey and Museum Rides on B-17 and other war birds. For more information please contact (480) 924-1940.

Some soup for you…
The Community Economic Development Alliance, Inc. (CEDA), a nonprofit organization affiliated with St. Mary’s Food Bank, is holding a canned food drive.
They will be accepting canned foods and clothes on Nov. 1. All donations will go directly to the disabled, disadvantaged youth, elderly victims of domestic violence and the homeless to assist them in getting back on their feet and improving their current situation. Difference…
The Diversity Career Expo will take place on Nov. 4 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and will be centered in the Phoenix Civic Plaza, located at 111 N. 3rd St. in the Exhibit Hall L. For more information please contact (480) 461-7419.

The runway awaits...
The NAACP Fashion Show rehearsals will be taking place on Oct. 31 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and will be held in the Navajo Room in the Kirk Center. For more information please contact (480) 461-7598.

A song and dance…
A benefit Navajo Song and Dance will be taking place on Nov. 1 at the Heard Museum. The Steele Auditorium from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. will be occupied for the performance. For more information please contact Wendy Weston at (602) 251-0284.

The Arizona Deaf Lecture Series will take place in the Navajo Room Nov. 4. The hours of operation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. For more information please contact (480) 461-7447.
