Adopt-A-Family brightens season

The harshness of homelessness and the cold truth of starvation for the average American may only be a paycheck away.
In times of need a family’s options are limited. Being a student and an everyday laborer adds more restrictions to a budget.
Adopt-A-Family, a program designed to help students in a time of need, is currently being offered here on campus.
Allison Whiting, program adviser of Adopt-A-Family at MCC, hopes that the hard work that is being done will make the holiday season a little brighter for many of the underprivileged students or families.
“These people are sacrificing already by giving up their money to go to school,” Whiting said. People who apply for assistance must sacrifice both time and money to attend college despite financial difficulties.
This volunteer program is completely anonymous, and in previous years, has been a huge success. With the holidays looming ahead, many families just need that little extra something to get by.
“It is not just gifts that are being requested,” said Whiting. “Many people are just asking for the necessities such as food, soap, or toothpaste.”
