Nov.
13, Phoenix police coordinated what they said was the largest drag
racing bust in state history.
Ten people were arrested for drag racing, and 165 bystanders were
arrested for various other illegal activities such as underage drinking
and trespassing.
Five days earlier on Nov. 8, Firebird International Raceway, Auto
Trader Magazine, and many other sponsors worked together to host
an event intended to provide not only entertainment for participants
and attendees, but also to help get drag racing off the streets
and back on to the race track.
Clay
statues, acrylics, oils, photographs and canvas were some of the
many things on display in the Navajo Room of the Kirk Center for
10 days starting Nov. 10.
The Art Faculty Show showcased the work of various art instructors
from the past year and gave students as well as other faculty
members a chance to see the talent of so many of MCC’s own
teachers.
MCC
students have a new option of where to obtain gourmet beverages on
campus.
With the addition of Jazzland Café located near the library,
the Kirk Center based Grounds for Thought is no longer the sole proprietor
of specialty coffee drinks at MCC. The new shop has students weighing
their choices.
The new Jazzland Café offers Web access, a small venue for
live piano music, glass cases displaying art, a selection of food
items and coffee. Multi-colored padded chairs fill the shop and extend
outward into the adjoining hallway.

Students and activists gathered on Mill Avenue Nov. 15
to protest Tempe urban camping ordinances that make it illegal to
lay down bedding with the intent of sleeping in public places. The
group of about 30 people made their way down the street carrying signs,
chanting and at one point stopping to serve food and inform onlookers
about the issue.
