Limited stress OK, institute says
(U-WIRE) SAN DIEGO - While many consider stress in its entirety
to be a negative thing, small amounts of what some describe as America’s
No. one health problem may be a healthy thing.
According to an article from Brigham Young University at Idaho, some stress
and anxiety can be beneficial to a person. Anxiety disorder is the most
common mental health issue in the country, with more than 19 million adults
being affected, the article said.
Yet, despite all the problems large amounts of stress can cause, some
believe it can be a positive thing to have in one’s life. For a
college student, stress can be found at school, the workplace, within
the family, social settings and much more. If dealt with properly, the
article said, stress can help solve problems, and increase efficiently
by acting as a motivating factor.
The American Institute of Stress Website, http://www.stress.org, said
just as stress can cause disease, it is plausible there are good stresses
that can promote wellness. It also said increased amounts of stress can
cause an increase in productivity, but only up to a certain point. Beyond
that, the institute said the effects of stress depend on how it is managed,
and it is up to each individual to find the amount of stress that allows
optimal performance.
