Letter to the Editor:

Killer cars on our campus

I am writing because of the traffic light on Southern and the parking lot of MCC. I feel this light is one of the most dangerous traffic lights for pedestrians, around school.
I used to take the bus and had to cross at that intersection almost every day. Each time I would be very afraid of getting hit.
People making a left turn out of the MCC parking lot onto Southern are in just too big a hurry to make the light. Sometimes I had to stand in the middle of the street and wait for the cars to finish turning left in front of me.
On March 10 my friend and I were going back to school from Jack in the Box, when a car turning left hit my friend.
Luckily, she wasn’t killed, but she was seriously injured. It was a very traumatizing thing to see and experience.
This is why I have come to the conclusion that something has to be done to make it safer for not only pedestrians, but drivers.
I know I am not the only one who feels this way. I have heard many stories and fears about this light.
I wanted to write and tell everyone to please be cautious when turning and crossing the street. Just because you are in the crosswalk and it is your right-of-way doesn’t guarantee the cars are going to stop.
As for the drivers, please have patience! Trying to get to your destination five minutes sooner isn’t worth someone’s life.
