Spotlight

In honor of Earth Day, Starbucks is helping make home gardens look healthier by promoting a program called Grounds for your Garden. On April 22, local Starbucks retail locations will have complimentary bags of spent coffee grounds which will be available to take home to add to a garden or to use to help reduce organic waste in the environment. In the past, this program has helped beautify local gardens in parks, schools, nurseries, and private gardens
across North America. When the reused coffee grounds are added to gardens with nitrogen-friendly plants, as well as a few leaves to balance the nutrition of the soil, the plants will start to look healthier. The coffee grounds can also be added to compost piles to speed up the decomposition process.
Bags of used coffee grounds are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis, not only on April 22, but everyday throughout the year. For more information about the Grounds for your Garden program or other Starbucks environmental programs, contact Anne-Marie Devine at (415) 974-7285, or send an e-mail to adevine@gcigroup.com. Earth Day is a good day to remember the environment around us and what we can do to make it better each day.
