Mesa gridmen move on

Benjamin Buettner
Sports Editor

Eight Mesa Community College football players have signed letters of intent to continue their education at four-year colleges, according to Athletic Director and Head Coach Dan Dunn. Six members of the group attended local high schools, and several have already enrolled at their new institutions.
Jeremiah White, a graduate of Mesa Skyline High School, ranked among the top five running backs in the Western State Football League this past season, averaging 5.8 yards per carry. He will attend Missouri Western State.
Wide Receiver Greg Nielson and defensive lineman Justin Douglas, both graduates of Mesa Mountain View High School, are headed for Utah, Nielson to Brigham Young University and Douglas to Weber State.
Tight end Kyle Hunt (Gilbert) will matriculate at Southeast Missouri State, while wide receiver Jeff McKane (Mesa) is off to Southern Utah University, and strong safety David Mayers (Mesa Red Mountain) to McPherson College in Kansas.
Quarterbacks Ryan Rusler and Jordan Coffin have been accepted at Colorado State and Benedictine College, respectively. -(contributed by Lew Shaw, MCC Sports Information Director)

Daniel McClendon (left) from Corona del Sol High School in Tempe, signs his letter of intent. To date, there are 60 standing letters of intent for next year’s team. The event was held in the Navajo Room on Feb. 4, and kicked off with a video preview of what’s in store for next year’s T-Birds.
Josh Mendenhall (left) is one of the Thunderbirds top recruits boasting a 6’5 300-pound frame out of Saguaro High School in Scottsdale.
