Spotlight
The second annual Mesa Community College International Film Festival will be held April 5-14. This year’s theme is Mexican Women Directors: Weavers of Shadows. In its first year, the festival was a success with a turnout of approximately 2,000 people, and this year’s attendance is expected to almost double, according to director Don Castro.

Hate
The Anti-Defamation League and Scottsdale Community College will be starting up a monthly film series titled, “The Many Faces of Hate.” In recognition of Black History Month, the first film to be presented will be a film titled, “Forgotten Fires,” a true story about the burning of churches by the KKK, Feb. 16 at 6:30 p.m., in the SCC Performing Arts Center. There will be a discussion after the film.

Jan. 19
College Safety officers responded to a report of an intoxicated individual walking near the LS building at 4:25 a.m. The subject was located near the bus stop on Dobson Rd., where he had started a small fire. The subject complained of an injury to his foot. Mesa Police and Fire Departments were summoned and the subject was eventually transported to the hospital by ambulance.

Jan. 20
A student reported at 8:30 p.m. that person(s) unknown broke out the driver window of his car. No items were reported missing from the vehicle.

A student reported that person(s) unknown broke out the driver window of his car while it was parked in lot D, and a radio face plate, radar detector and numerous CDs were taken.

Jan. 21
A student reported that his blue 1995 Ford pickup was stolen from lot F between 10:30 a.m. and noon. The incident was reported to Mesa PD.

Jan. 22
A student reported that his vehicle was damaged, possibly a hit-and-run accident, while the car was parked in lot A, north of the library. No suspect information is currently known.
