The second annual Mesa Community
College International Film Festival will be held April 5-14. This
year’s theme is Mexican Women Directors: Weavers of Shadows.
In its first year, the festival was a success with a turnout of
approximately 2,000 people, and this year’s attendance is
expected to almost double, according to director Don Castro. The
inaugural film festival’s theme was
Daughters of Scheherazade, which was a total of six films about
Iranian women
and was also directed by Castro. The first film in this year’s
series can be viewed at Mesa Community College in the library,
however, the remaining five can be seen at the Tempe Pollack Cinemas.
All films are shown at 6:30 p.m., and again at 9:30 p.m., with
an introduction from the director, but only the 6:30 p.m. showing
will have a question and answer session after show.
The Tempe Pollack Cinemas are located on 1825 E. Elliot Road,
and the showing that will be held at Mesa Community College will
be shown in The Reading Room.
For more information about specific
film titles that will be shown throughout the week at either Mesa
Community College or the Tempe Pollack Cinemas, call Castro at
