Spotlight

The MCC English department is currently accepting entries for the 2005 Creative Writing Contest. Acceptable entries include personal essays, short stories, and poetry, with only MCC students eligible to submit writings.

Feed Me
A Student/Faculty Colloquium on Religious Issues will be held by the Center for Global Tolerance and Engagement on March 10 from noon to 1:15 p.m. in the Kiva Room. The topic will be Feed Me: Religion, Food and Ethnic Context.

Giving blood
There will be a blood drive held on the Southern and Dobson campus at Mesa Community College outside of the Kirk Center on March 31. All students and staff are encouraged to come and participate by giving blood.

Islamic Lecture Series
The Islamic Lecture Series will start on March 28 and continue through March 31. Topics in the series of discussions include Basics of Islam, Women in Islam and Jihad in Islam. Music

Free music

Feb. 2
Campus police officers responded to the south parking lots on a report of three males looking into vehicles. The subjects were located and observed for several minutes before being contacted. They had no logical explanation for being on campus. They were identified and escorted from college property.

Feb. 3
A staff member reported at 8:30 a.m. that person(s) unknown removed a Compaq 17” flat screen monitor from a TC classroom some time during the previous evening or early that morning.
A student reported at 10 a.m. that she had obtained a court order against her ex-boyfriend after he assaulted her and stole her car. She was concerned that he would come onto campus in an attempt to locate her.
A library staff member reported that a non-student, previously warned to stay off of campus, was in the library. A campus police officer responded and recognized the subject as the same person he had removed from campus the previous week. The subject was arrested and turned over to Mesa PD for criminal prosecution.

Feb. 4
A student athlete reported that while he was at practice, person(s) unknown broke the combination lock on his locker and took a small amount of cash.

Feb. 5
Security officers monitoring the security cameras in the College Safety office at Red Mountain noticed a male and female attempting to break into a vending machine at Acacia Village. Mesa Police officers were called and one security officer responded to the location. The male fled the area on foot and the female was detained until police arrived. Police officers were later able to identify and locate the male subject. Both were charged with attempted theft.

Feb. 7
A student filed a delayed report of a hit and run accident that occurred in lot G, south of the theatre, on Feb. 3. No suspect information is available.
A minor non-injury motor vehicle accident between two students occurred in lot F, south of the TC building. Relevant information was exchanged between the drivers.

Feb. 8
A student made a delayed report of a missing camera. She believes that the Canon Powershot was possibly taken from her bag while she was attending a class in the dance room on Feb. 3. No suspect(s) are known.
A minor non-injury motor vehicle accident between two students occurred in lot C, near the stadium. Relevant information was exchanged between the drivers.



 

Feb. 9
A student reported at 12:10 p.m. that her white Ford pick up truck was damaged along the left side, possibly while parked in lot F, on the south side of campus, earlier that morning.

Feb. 15
College Safety officers responded to the library on a report of two subjects arguing. Investigation revealed that the incident had ended and no student conducted violation or crime had occurred.

Feb. 16
A campus police officer spoke to a student who had come to College Safety to recover a lost backpack. A small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia was found in the backpack when it was originally turned in on Feb. 14. The student admitted responsibility for the marijuana. The case had been referred to the Dean of Student Services for disposition.
A campus police officer began an investigation into the apparent forgery of a VA charge voucher at the college bookstore.
A student stopped for skateboarding on campus refused to cooperate with College Safety officers. He was contacted by a campus police officer and referred to the dean of Student Services.

Feb. 17
A staff member reported that her vehicle was struck by another employee’s car while parked in lot K, the gated employee lot. Information was exchanged between drivers.

Feb. 22
Library staff members reported a non-student in the building that was disturbing students. He was identified by a campus police officer and asked to leave the campus.
An instructor made a delayed report of a student that had been a disturbance near the BA building. The student apparently swore at the instructor during a conversation. The investigations was completed and forwarded to the Dean of Student Services for disposition.
Two students became involved in a argument conserving a parking space in lot J, west of child care. Information was forwarded to the Dean of Student Services.
An instructor reported receiving a threatening e-mail from a student. The investigation is continuing.

Feb. 24
A student was warned after being observed viewing objectionable material on a library computer. The information regarding the incident was forwarded to the Dean of Student Services.
