Local bars not faked out by ‘IDs’

As music pounds and the drinks flow at local bars, many under age drinkers timidly approach the bartender to test out their fake ID’s for the first time. This is something many college kids can relate to considering how easy it is to find a fake ID.
With the increasing number of fake ID’s circulating the valley, getting one is a lot easier than it use to be, and getting a fake ID isn’t the real problem; it’s using the ID that’s the hard part.
“I had a California ID and tried to use it at Dos Gringos in Tempe. They knew it was fake when they put it under the light and wouldn’t give it back, I was so mad!” said MCC student, Alexis McMan.
Another student, Melanie Provasnik said, “Going to Mill, or pretty much any where in Tempe with a fake ID is a big mistake. You can’t get in anywhere unless you’re 21.”
Louis Garcia, an employee at Melony’s on Campus agreed. “We have a lot of people come through here that try using a fake ID since we are so close to ASU. We confiscate a lot of them.”
Doormen at Melony’s prepare for the change in seasons and get ready for the new batch of fake ID’s to come around. “At the start of every school year there are tons of new fake ID’s being made. More and more students will come around here with the same one’s and we catch on right away,” said Garcia.
Since the fake ID’s sometimes look like the real thing, a lot of bars have a camera installed near the front door that takes pictures of each ID as the customers come in. The pictures are kept on file for the liquor board, in case a fake ID did somehow sneak by the doormen. This will protect the establishment, proving that all people in the building showed some form of identification.
