Letters to the Editor:

Seniors beware, we’ve got the vote

Lately in the news the hot topic has been social security. Ever since President Bush announced that the government needs to reform the social security system, people all across the country have been in an uproar.
The problem is that social security has always been an issue.
Economists have known for years that the baby boomer generation would drain social security, but nothing was ever done.
Why?
Because of Senior Citizens!
Yes, the old people who actually had to suffer and work through the Great Depression are milking the government for all they’ve got.
How, you might ask. Well, simply they get out and vote, and make the greedy politicians their puppets.
They have control and when one of their puppets speaks about reducing social security benefits they rip his or her strings out of office.
Now that we as students know how the senior citizens solved their retirement funding issues, why don’t we do the same thing for the economic issue that we face?
Over the past few years tuition rates have skyrocketed and there are no signs of them going down, or to say the least stopping.
I don?t even have to mention the negative impacts of high tuition rates.
We see the negatives each month when we look at our student loans or when we realize that we have to work more rather than study more.
I write to all students today proposing that our problems or at least are children’s can be solved if we would get out and vote.
If the senior citizens can do it, why can’t we? Oh yeah, I forgot we don’t care.
