The Mesa Community College Volleyball team has had a good start in making their mark in the ACCAC region by starting 3-0, and sweeping their last two opponents.
Head Coach Tricia Melfy says the team is “ahead of schedule” and much quicker than she expected. After preferring to “not focus” on last year’s team and struggles, Melfy says her 2004 team has “a long ways to go” but “they are playing well together” and have a much deeper and taller team with three girls over 6-foot in height.
Overall, Melfy said that she was looking forward to a successful season with star freshman recruit, Irene Bahe, who has 39 kills and eight blocks against her first three opponents. Melfy’s goal for the year is to finish third in the ACCAC region.
Hayden Johnson, a returning libero (defensive specialist), has 56 digs in her first three games concluded against South Mountain Community College on Sept. 3.
