On Sept. 20 there will be a Clubs Carnival held at Red Mountain between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. Come and find out what clubs are available on campus.
Calling all readers...
The Center for Service Learning needs students who are interested in participating in literary tutoring and mentoring for younger students who are striving to reach their full potential. The schools include Adams Elementary School, Mesa Arts Academy, and CARE Partnership.
Students who are willing to tutor and mentor must be eligable for Federal Work Study funds. For more information, contact Susan Taffer in the Center for Service Learning at (480) 361-7393.
Dialogue Day...
The Center for Global Tolerance and Engagement will be holding a discussion entitled, “Report on Salzburg Seminar” Sept. 15 between noon to 1:15 p.m. in the Kiva building. Table Talk...
On Sept. 16, The Center for Global Tolerance and Engagement is holding a discussion entitled, “Could America Really Be Satan?” The discussion will take place between noon to 1:15 p.m. For more information as to the location and other relating topics, go online at www.mc.maricopa.edu/cgte.
Moviegoers...
On Sept. 15, ASU’s Department of Languages and Literatures will be introducing a film entitled “Chihwaseon.” The 117 minute long movie was filmed entirely in Korean but will have English subtitles. For more information on the film, please call Rico Martinez at (480) 965-7184.
History buffs...
ASU will be putting on five separate galleries, lectures, conferences, and exhibitions, that will remain on campus Aug. 24 through Nov. 19 in conjunction with the Oct. 13 Presidential debate, which is taking place at ASU.
One of the first gallaries is entitled, “Legacy of Leadership: U.S. Congressional Exhibit.” Twelve of the past and present members of the Arizona Congressional delegation, which includes Carl Hayden, Eldon Rudd, John Murdock, Richard Harless and Henry F. Ashurst, have or are going to give their personal and professional papers, photographs and research materials to ASU Libraries’ Arizona Collection. The “Legacy of Leadership” draws from that material, and includes photographs, manuscripts, and valuable Presidential letters from former Presidents such as John Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Dwight Eisenhower, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, and Gerald Ford, and will feature pens used for signing important legislation, and other historical artifacts.
The other events are entitled “Arizona Women in Politics: A Photo Essay,” “United States Presidential Campaign Memorabilia,” “The Campaigns of Navajo Nation Leade,r Peterson Zah,” and “I Do Solomly Swear...’: The Presidency: Executive Power and the People.” For more information contact Rose Minetti at (480) 965-4925.
Voting and learning...
There will be a NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) and BSU (Black Student Union) club meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 1:00 p.m. in the Kirk Center. This meeting is open to all students who would like to attend. The topic of discussion will be an educational session on voter registration. For more information, contact the counseling department.
Come light a candle...
The second annual “Day of Unity” Program and first candle Light Vigil will be taking place on Monday, Oct. 4 at 7:00 p.m. in an attempt to bring awarness to the problem of Domestic Violence. This vigil will be the start of Domestic Violence Awareness month, which has evolved from the first “Day of Unity” program held in 1981 by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The event will take place outside of the clock tower and all students are encouraged to participate.
Be all you can be...
For the rest of the school year there will be an Army Recruiter outside of the Kirk Center every Monday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
University bound students ...
There is a representative from the University of Phoenix that will be on campus the second and fourth Tuesday of every month for the rest of the year from 4:00-6:00 p.m.
An admissions representative from the University of Arizona will be on campus for a table visit Sept. 16 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. outside the Kirk Center.
The ASU School of Social Work will be sending a representative to MCC, Sept. 27 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. outside the Kirk Center.
Johnson and Wales University will be on campus in the Kirk Center, Sept. 16 from 10:00 a.m. through 2:00 p.m. for a table visit with students.
A representative from the Grand Canyon University will be on campus for a table talk Sept. 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00p.m. outside of the Kirk Center.

The AIA (Arizona Interscholastic Association) is in need of Wrestling officials to work throughout the season. Anyone who is interested can call Charlie Jones at (602) 381-5425.
Free tutoring...
Individual and small group tutoring is available in the Paul A. Elsner Library Monday through Thursday. All tutor sessions are free of charge and are available in most academic subjects.
