Feeding the hungry
World Hunger day is Oct. 6 and Mesa Community College will be participating in a nationwide Empty Bowl effort to commemorate this day. Two thousand hand-made bowls will be filled with soup and accompanied by bread and water for 10 dollars each. A silent auction will also take place that will feature bowls created and signed by local artists. This event will take place in the center of the Southern and Dobson campus, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and all proceeds go directly to Paz de Cristo. For more information, call (480) 461-7534.

Politics in the U.S.
The Center for Global Tolerance and Engagement will be holding a forum on the U.S. involvment in the United Nations, Sept. 30 from 3:00-4:30p.m. For additional information on the topic or location, go to:

Foreign policy and students
On Oct. 12 from noon to 1:15 p.m., there will be a dialogue day entitled, “Panel on U.S. Foriegn Policy as viewed by International Students,” which will be sponsered by the Center for Global Tolerance and Engagement. For more information, go online at www.mc.maricopa.edu/cgte.

Break bad habits
The psychology department will be presenting an evening lecture series throughout the year in the Navajo room of the Kirk Center. The topic of discussion for Oct. 7 is “Getting Motivated to Change Your Habits.” The lecture will be given by Gretchen Zimmerman, Psy.D from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Seating is limited. Reach for the stars
The Student Sucess Conference is scheduled to take place Oct. 1. The theme for this year is “Education: The Journey for Success,” and the keynote speaker will be Dr. Kay McClenny. For more information or to register online, go to www.dist.maricopa.edy/students/success.htm.

Shakespeare and a sandwich
ASU West will be hosting their fourth annual Shakesphere Under the Stars picnic, Oct. 2 at 7:00 p.m., in the University Courtyard and the Delph Courtyard. Students who have been involved in Shakesphere related clubs have been selected to perform scenes. For more information, call (602) 543-ARTS.
