| The increasing popularity of holistic medicine has caused many schools like the Arizona School of Massage Therapy to focus more on hoilistic care. |
The medicine field isn’t depending on modern technology to cure illness anymore. With the resurgence of holistic medicine, the popularity of holistic practices and schools is increasing.
Dr. Bruce Franklin of Lubitz of Community Health Care Clinic, defines holistic as “an approach to treatment and health that deals with the bodies entity rather than treating isolated symptoms.”
“When a patient has a problem, you need to address the patient’s body and lifestyle. Then, look at the symptom,” according to Dr. Lubitz.
After the patient’s body and lifestyle has been assessed, there is a good chance the source of the ache, pain or illness has already been found, according to holistic believers.
Lubitz believes that tradition has virtually narrowed focus to overlook the entity of the being.
“Doctor’s spend more time diagnosing and prescribing drugs then taking an overall view of the body.”
Dr. Lubitz’s goal for his patients is for their body to be as healthy as possible.
“You want everybody to achieve the highest possible level of body function, and holistic health care offers that.”
People have become broadminded when it comes to health care. There is an expectation by the public that if they go to the doctor and get a prescription, their illness will go away, and that doesn’t always work.
“People are starting to realize that there is a wider range of therapies with holistic treatments, which is leading more people to seek out holistic clinics,” said Dr. Lubitz.
The popularity of holistic medicine is rapidly climbing in Arizona. Dr. Lubitz believes this is due to the climate.
“Arizona has good weather, good publications. Arizona people seem to be more health oriented.”
Lubitz also believes that because much of the population doesn’t have access to higher medical care, people look toward alternative methods, increasing the popularity. Because of the growing popularity of holistic methods, more schools focus more on the holistic approach.
“The Arizona School of Massage Therapy is really making a name of itself,” according to Dr. Lubitz.
The Arizona School of Massage Therapy located on Southern and Priest, offers a very unique curriculum according to Courtney Payton, education manager at ASMT.
“We offer introduction courses in 20 different modalities.”
The ASMT also offers student internships and their courses range from acupressure to trigger point therapies.
The school has 330 to 350 matriculating students.
Students of the school go on to be self-employed (47 percent), employed by a company (53 percent), employed by a spas, gyms and cruise ships (28 percent), or employed in the medical and clinical fields (23 percent), according to Payton.
Payton believes that the reason holistic treatments are becoming increasingly popular is because the technology phase has lost touch with humans.
“Technology people have lost touch with humans. There becomes more and more of a need for human touch.”
The big misconception of massage and body work is that it is not about being pampered, it is about preventative health care and holistic treatment.”
Overall Payton agrees with Lubitz about the popularity of the holistic field in Arizona.
“More people are becoming aware of their bodies and want to take preventative care, instead of taking better care of their cars.
