Food price hikes go unnoticed

Students can find find a variety of new food at the Thunderbird Cafe. While prices of different items did jump about a nickel or a dime, most students didn’t seem to notice.

The Thunderbird Café has recently raised the prices on some food items, but students should not feel the impact since prices have gone up only a nickel or dime, with the exception of salad and pizza prices, which rose fifty cents or more.
Students may be pleasantly surprised to find a new variety of items to choose from. Also, the new chefs are quite sharp in terms of their culinary skills. Marcus Campbell, for instance, has been an employee at Thunderbird Café for 2 months and an MCC student for three years. He claims he can make anything, and explained that everyday he prepares different specialty foods like French, Asian and Italian dishes, just to name a few. The old standbys like fries and onion rings are available and for the early birds, the breakfast menu offers eggs, pancakes, and burritos.
Items like fountain drinks range from a dollar and fifteen cents to a dollar sixty-five; these beverage prices are not at all exorbitant and still give cheap hot spots like Taco Bell, a little competition.
Taco Bell, McDonald’s and Jack In The Box, all offer a dollar menu and many students take advantage, but the cost of food at The Thunderbird Café remains reasonable. Students have a wide variety of items to choose from. Sandwiches coupled with sides of fruit, salad or pudding, are priced at four dollars, while salads and fruit bowls range from one to five dollars.
Aramark provides food services for MCC and nine other campuses. According to Jon Milner, manager of the café, all the campuses have slightly increased the cost on some items with the approval of the district.
Students do not seem to notice the price increases and according to Lawson Clark, an employee, the flow of traffic to the cafeteria has not been decreasing. In fact, Jon Milner claimed that he sees an increase. Student Rose Brewer said she has not noticed a decrease in clientele, but she does appreciate the new items available and is impressed by the hiring of cooks and chefs.
The Thunderbird Café has made some improvements to its menu and the prices, and according to Jon Milner, they were increased in relation to the suppliers cost increase.
