The Mesa women’s soccer team rallied from a 1-0 deficit with twenty minutes left in the match to torch the number six team in the nation, Chandler-Gilbert Community College, for three goals.
“Everyone seems to get up for the games against us,” said coach Tim Barmettler. “It was a really exciting and big game for us and we could have scored about one or two more. Once we got that first one in the rest seemed to come a little easier for us.”
Heather Perry struck first for the Thunderbirds with twenty minutes to go as teammates Nicole Prather and Verena Andrade, followed her lead with goals of their own late in the second half to put the game away for Mesa, 3-1.
“Our coaches and players are all doing great,” Barmettler said. “We stumbled against Pima but we have done well all season. We’ve played good defense, people are starting to score and everything is really coming together for us.”
The women’s record is now at 9-2 with seven games left in the season.
