Amy John(left) and Cassie Campbell are sisters who are a big part of the Volleyball team and are reuinited after rivaling in high school.
Twins? “Yeah right,” Cassie Campbell laughs then explains that she and recently married Amy John, are sisters separated by two years. Their fellow volleyball teammates have nicknamed the pair “The Twins” and the girls agree that they could have passed for twins before Amy changed her hair color from blonde to brown.
Still, there is a five and a half inch difference in height between the girls, Cassie standing at 5’4 ½ inches, while Amy towers at 6 feet. It is understandable why Cassie finds their nickname comical.
Differences between the twins do not stop at appearances; Cassie is the team’s setter and Amy plays opposite.
On the court, they explain that the sisters feel more free to criticize one another’s plays. Amy is not shy about letting Cassie know if her sets are too high or low.
They both started playing club volleyball in the sixth grade. Gabrielle Reece was the volleyball role model for Amy and Cassie grew inspired by the University of Arizona girl’s volleyball team. The girls continued on through high school, where they competed against each other. Amy, the older of the two, played for Gilbert High and stayed on after Mesquite High was built, while Cassie made her own way at the new school.
“It has been one and-a-half years since Amy gave birth,” Cassie explains and it is clear how proud she is of her sister’s speedy return to the sport they both love.
