Letters to the Editor

Don’t just vote, make it count
After reading the latest articles by the Political Science instructors--Brian Dille and Alex Avila--encouraging students to vote, one idea came strongly to mind: Don’t just vote! I am writing for those of you that don’t care. I have a solution: Don’t just vote! Why do you need MTV to tell you that voting is important? Since when do you need to vote if you don’t care? If all the latest major issues in the American life, you still don’t care, let me tell you something: Don’t just vote!
To me, voting loses its importance every time that someone who doesn’t care votes. I believe we all want accessible healthcare, a stable economy, homeland security and much more. Yet voting is an important decision you make after considering all the possibilities.
Voting without analyzing America’s present challenges, and the candidate’s proposals, is very damaging for our society. Although some states have stronger electoral colleges than others, every vote counts. That’s why I urge you not to vote if you don’t care. For my own safety, security and happiness, I’d prefer to have you away from the elections if you are unable to tell me at least one major characteristic that caused you to choose your candidate.
In order to make an intelligent decision, you need to research. Although I have my mind set on one candidate, during my own decision-making process (yes, it was a p-r-o-c-e-s-s) I found myself confused with so many promises.
In the end, no matter what everyone tells you, the decision is all yours. Together we vote for our leaders and allow them to make choices that will affect all of us.
So make sure to research before you vote. Forget all that MTV advertisement, forget all the politically sponsored concerts, and allow those who really care about this country to make the choice for you if you really don’t care.Don’t just vote!
