Spotlight
a The Fourth Annual Mesa Literary Festival will be held at Mesa Community College, Nov. 4, through Nov. 6. The event will kick off in the Zuni room at 1:30 p.m. At that time, creative writing students will present their original written works. At 7:30 p.m., writers Lynda Schor and Halvard Johnson will read some of their own literary pieces. On Nov. 5, at 1 p.m., MCC faculty members will gather in the Zuni room to participate in readings until 2:00 p.m. Next, Johnson and James Cervantes will be reading from Changing the Subject. Kim Addonizio and Tad Richards will wrap up the day with a final reading at 7:30 p.m. On the final day of the festival, Richards and Johnson will host an informal workshop in the Zuni room from 10:00 a.m. until noon. More workshops hosted by Kim Addonizio and Lynda Schor will follow at 1:00 p.m. Saturday evening, Anne Cummins, John Willis, Steve Willis, Johns Becker, Jed Allen, and Jill Divine, will hose a literary fathering entitled, “The World and the Blues.”
The event will be held in Hollywood Alley, located at 2610 W. Baseline Road, which is in the northwest corner of Baseline and Don Carlos Road. The participants of the Fourth Annual Mesa Literacy Festival are all experienced writers who wish to provide an educational, as well as entertaining, experience for students and faculty alike. All students and staff are welcomed to come and experience this event first-hand.

Artwork from fire
The Mesa Arts Center (MAC) and the Arizona Society of Glass Beadmakers (ASGB), will be holding an event on Nov. 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., that will promote the purchase of unique glass artwork. Former and present ASGB and MAC students will be showcasing work such as lampworked beads, jewelry, marbles, as well as fused and slumped glass. Patrons will be able to view dramatic flame working at all hours of the event. This event is free to all and all proceeds from the artwork will be donated to the MAC Glass Studio and its’ educational programs. The Mesa Arts Center is located on 155 N. Red or Blue?
The Center for Global Tolerance and Engagment will be hosting a debate titled, “Prominent Republican/Democratic Leaders Debate,” Oct. 29, from 2-4:00 p.m., in room LB145. All students an faculty are invited and encouraged to attend.

Religious discussion
There will be a “Student/Faculty Colloquium on Religious Issues” discussion sponsored by The Center for Global Tolerance and Engagement, Nov. 11 from noon to 1:15 p.m.

Mixed race in America
The Psychology department will be hosting a lecture on “The Psychology of Mixed Race Identity.” The speaker for the evening will be Christine C. Iijima Hall, Ph.D., a nationally known psychologist, who will present her research of biracial identity in America. The event will take place Nov. 3 from 7-9:00 p.m., in the Navajo room which is located in the Kirk Center.

Islamic Democracy
Arizona State University is presenting a free lecture entitled, “Islamic Democracy and the Future of Iraq.” The lecture will be held in the Armstrong Hall (College of Law) Great Hall at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 27. The speaker for the evening will be Noah Feldman, a senior constitutional advisor to Coalition authorities in Iraq. Although the lecture is free, tickets are still required. Dancing the night away
The Fall Dance Concert will be held in the Theatre Outback auditorium Nov. 4 and 5 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5.00 and all students are welcome to attend this event. Other prices, and upcoming performances, can be found at www.mc.maricopa.edu/dept/d55/thp/perform/.

Sept.29
A student reported that her Honda Civic has been scratched on the right rear bumper by unknown means, while parked in lot A, Sept. 28, at 9:20 a.m.

Sept. 29
Two students were involved in a minor non-injury motor vehicle accident in lot A at 11:50 a.m. They exchanged required information.

Sept. 30
A student reported that he left his backpack unattended for a short time on the second floor of the library. When he returned, he discovered that someone had taken his TI-83 calculator, at 9:10 a.m.

Sept. 30
A student reported that person(s) unknown entered his possibly unsecured car, as it was parked in lot C at 4:57 p.m. A bag was taken which contained clothing, a checkbook and a credit card.

Sept. 30
A staff member reported his black 1996 Cadillac Fleetwood stolen from lot C at 8:00 p.m. The vehicle was last seen on video review at 3:30 p.m. and was discovered missing at 7:45 p.m.

Oct. 2
Two students were involved in a minor non-injury motor vehicle accident in lot J, west of childcare, at 2:57 p.m. They both exchanged required information.

Oct. 2
Two intoxicated non-students were contacted near the BP building after being observed urinating near the building at 8:00 p.m. They were identified and warned not to return to the college by a campus police officer.

Oct. 4
A female student reported that she was approached by a male subject near the BP building who began to engage her in sexually suggestive conversation at 1:00 p.m. She proceeded to class without reporting the incident but contacted College Safety when she saw the subject on campus later in the day. A campus police officer located and contacted the subject near the admissions office, and identified the suspect as a magazine solicitor. He was told to leave the campus and that he would be arrested if he returned.

Oct. 5
A College Safety officer witnessed a minor non-injury motor vehicle accident that occured when a student struck a parked car in lot J, west of childcare, at 7:04 a.m. The student was contacted and identified as he walked toward the campus.

Oct. 5
A student reported that her Toyota Corolla was “keyed” after she parked it in lot J, at 1:15 p.m. She had been involved in a minor confrontation with another female at 11:45 a.m., while parking the car and the victim believes this person caused the damage to the car. The investigation is continuing.

Oct. 5
A student was observed by a College Safety officer pushing over a newspaper vending machine and a sandwich board sign near the Kirk Center at 1:54 p.m. The student was apparently angry conserning an earlier incident. He was refered to the counseling department and a copy of the written incident report was forwarded to the Dean of Students office.

Oct. 5
A student reported that her vehicle was apparently struck and damaged by an unknown vehicle while it was parked in lot C, at 4:30 p.m.The driver of the other vehicle did not leave any identifying information as required by the law.

Oct. 6
A student reported that his vehicle was apparently sturck and damaged by an unknown hehicle in lot E, at 8:58 a.m. The driver of the other vehicle did not leave any information as required by law.

Oct. 6
Two lockers in the football locker room were entered, and cash was taken between 3:30 and 6:30 p.m., while the players were at prac,tice.

Oct. 6
A student reported that his white 1992 Ford one-ton truck was stolen from lot H between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. Mesa PD was notified.

Oct. 7
A College Safety officer at the Country Club and Brown campus contacted Mesa PD after observing what appeared to be a couple involved in a domestic dispute in a wehicle in the parking lot at 9:00 p.m. The couple left prior to police arrival.

Oct. 9
A student reported that she interrupted two subjects stealing the amplifiers out of her unlocked blue 1995 Honda Civic while it was parked in lot F. The suspects left the area in a white midsize sedan. The theft was reported to Mesa PD.

Oct. 11
A student reported the theft of his bicycle from from the bike rack on the north side of the SC building. No suspect(s) are known.

Oct. 11
A student made a delayed report of criminal damage to her 2002 Honda Accord that happened last month in lot C. No suspect(s) are known.

Oct. 11
A student reported that his unsecured locker in the east gym was entered and his wallet, debit card, and car keys, were taken by suspect(s) unknown while he was using the fitness center at 6:40 p.m.
