The Mesa lady Thunderbirds came out of the wrong end of a hard fought basketball game, Nov. 20, that ended in a 58-55 loss against Salt Lake CC.
The loss pushed Mesa back to a 1-4 record early in the season.
“I believe in a hard schedule,” Head Coach Robin Schamber said. The lady Thunderbirds started the season playing two national division champs from last year and division I teams.
“These teams have the option to give their students full-ride scholarships, and have the best of the best players, but we competed against all of them,” Schamber said.
“We should have won that game,” Schamber said in regards to the Salt Lake CC game.
Ashley Prince was the leading scorer with a total of 12 points. Prince also led the team with three steals and four assists. Brandi Steinke followed with 11 points, four steals, and two blocked shots.
“Defense is going to win our games, we just need to work on the discipline of running the plays,” Coach Schamber said.
