Associated Students of Mesa Community College helped to sponsor events throughout the day commemorating World AIDS Day, Dec. 1. These events included free AIDS testing on campus in front of the Clock Tower by the Maricopa Health Department from 4-8:00 p.m., as well as speakers from informational organizations who specialize in the AIDS field.

The Center for Global Tolerance and Engagement will be hosting a Table Talk Presentation based on Religious Issues, Dec. 9 from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m.

Holiday Cheer
Arizona State University’s Annual Organ Christmas Concert will be taking place on Dec. 11 at 2:30, 5, and 7:30 p.m. in the Organ Hall.
This ensemble will perform a holiday concert highlighting the beautiful Christmas music of the season.

 

Corrections

• In the Nov. 16 issue, the child in the picture on the front page getting his face painted was misidentified. His name is Max Jones. Whitney Moore is doing the painting and the photo credit belongs to Jen Tully.
• Also in the Nov. 16 issue, the word “continuous” is misspelled in the James Cervantes quote in the story about the Literary Festival on page 5.
• The women’s basketball score was incorrect also in the Nov. 16 edition. The story reported the final score was 84-24. The final score was 84-64.

Oct. 28
A student made a delayed report of harassment involving a fellow student that occurred eight days earlier on the Red Mountain campus.

Oct. 29
Mesa Police contacted and arrested a subject at 9:40 a.m. after the subject stole a “bait car” from Fiesta Mall. The suspect was attempting to elude police officers in the MCC parking lot.

A student reported the theft of his 1993 Chevrolet pickup sometime between 9:50 and 11:50 a.m. Mesa PD took a report of the incident. No suspect(s) are known.

Two students were involved in a minor non injury motor vehicle accident in lot J at 12:16 p.m.

A student reported the theft of her blue 1992 Chevrolet pickup truck from lot D. Mesa PD was contacted and an officer responded to the campus.

Mesa Police responded to the campus to speak with a student regarding an off campus criminal damage case. The student was contacted in his classroom in the SC building. The student became loud and abusive and was obviously intoxicated. He was transported to Mesa Police Department.

Nov. 1
A student riding a motorcycle received minor injuries when he was involved in a motor vehicle accident with a truck driven by another student in lot C at 2:45 p.m. Mesa PD responded and an officer took a report on the accident.

Nov. 2
College Safety officers responded to the computer lab in the BA building on a report of a student disturbance. The student was contacted and referred to the Dean of Students office for disposition.

A staff member reported that person(s) unknown broke a lock on his locker in the gym while he was working out and apparently went through his gym bag at 4:55p.m. No items were taken.

A student athlete reported that person(s) unknown forced open his locker while he was in football practice and took his cell phone. The investigation continues..

Nov. 13
College Safety officers discovered several lockers in the football locker room that appeared to have been forcibly entered while the athletes were playing at SCC. Only one student reported that anything had been stolen from his locker. The investigation continues.

Nov. 17
A student reported that person(s) unknown had entered his Jeep Wrangler, apparently through the soft top, and stole his CD player and the removable faceplate that had been left in the vehicle.

A student reported that person(s) unknown had entered his Ford Bronco, apparently through the broken rear window, and stole his CD player and the removable faceplate that had been left in the vehicle.

A student reported that his Chevrolet pickup was possibly damaged when it was struck by another vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle did not leave any identifying information as required by law.

A student reported that his Trek bicycle was stolen from a bike rack on the north side of the library at 7:51 p.m.

Nov. 19
Two non-students were arrested on the Red Mountain campus shortly after they were involved in a residential armed robbery in East Mesa. The suspects were attempting to elude Mesa PD and had approached two students on campus in an effort to get a ride from the area. A third suspect had been arrested near the scene of the crime.

A custodian reported that person(s) unknown stole a canvas bag from a storage room in the gym that contained his CD player and other miscellaneous items.

Nov. 22
A student made a delayed report of a possible attempted burglary to her vehicle on Friday, Nov. 19. Person(s) unknown pried the driver door handle in an attempt to gain entry into the vehicle.

Nov. 24
A College Safety officer discovered a snack vending machine on the north side of the NU building had been forcibly pried open. No items or cash were removed from the machine.

College Safety received a report of a small child left alone in a vehicle. Investigation revealed that the father, a non student, had dropped the mother of the four month old child off at a clinic across from MCC. He then parked his car in the lot and proceeded to the gym where he played basketball for at least ninety minutes. The child was checked by the Mesa FD and released to his mother.
