Students from an Introduction to Communication class planned, organized, and sponsored a Forever Young Senior Event at the Village Oaks at Mesa on Jan. 11.

Freshman 15’ is the slang term for the 15 pounds that is commonly gained in the first year of college by both men and women. The added weight is brought on partially by the student’s new surroundings.

Harvey Ovist admires a collection of rocks during MCC’s annual Gem and Mineral show. The show took place from Jan. 7 to Jan. 9. Different merchants displayed various types of rocks, mineral, and precious stones.

Culture must change with growth of Valley

Arizona is in dire need of some in-your-face, authentic, artistic culture. We need more opera and theater houses, more art galleries, along with other venues of food. Maybe then the public’s interest and awareness of the captivating passion of the much needed culture and art would become more appealing.

Mesa hosted the 22nd annual Thunderbird Shootout Jan. 3-4. The Thunderbirds advanced to the championship game by beating New York Fashion Institute of Technology 86-69 to play against Chipola Junior College.


Spotlight
Mesa Community College’s English Department is in the process of producing a new art and literary magazine titled, The Mesa Review. The magazine will include submissions from students currently attending MCC in categories such as poetry, fiction, personal essay, and black-and-white photography.
