Mesa hosted the 22nd annual Thunderbird Shootout Jan. 3-4. The Thunderbirds advanced to the championship game by beating New York Fashion Institute of Technology 86-69 to play against Chipola Junior College.

The Mesa men and women cross-country runners fared pretty well Nov. 21 in the Half Marathon in Wichita, Kan., putting an individual NJCAA national title under the program’s belt.

Mika Koivuniemi, PBA player of the year, proved to be too much for the competition at Mesa’s PBA event. Koivuniemi defeated PBA Hall of Famer Parker Bohn III in the final match for a $40,000 purse.
