Royalty returns for 2-month fest

The 17th Annual Renaissance Festival will open Feb. 5 and will run eight consecutive weekends, through March 27. The festival will be held Saturdays and Sundays, including Presidents’ Day Monday.
According to sponsors of the event, the festival will be held on a 30-acre medieval playground that employs 800 people dressed in character, costumed as commoners, knights and royalty.
Attractions include 12 stages with continuous live entertainment, ranging from the comedy of the Ded Bob Sho to the music of bagpipes and drums, as well as mischievous antics.
A medieval arts and crafts fair will be showcased with shops, enchanting tents and carts filled with the works of weavers, woodcarvers, blacksmiths, glass blowers, as well as pottery and jewelry makers.
Three performances of the royal Jousting tournament will be held daily. Jousters will be armored, on horseback, and will be challenging one another.
Food venders will be present offering a range of choices from giant turkey legs, hand-made chocolate and cinnamon-roasted almonds. Pubs will be located throughout the shire with a supply of beer and wine for visitors, as well as other refreshments.
Reservations can be made for the Pleasure Feast a two-hour, six-course meal with entertainment supplied.
The festival is located east of Apache Junction on US Highway 60. Events will go from 10 a.m to 6 p.m., rain or shine.
Advance tickets are available at Fry’s Food and Drug Stores statewide with prices of $16 for adults, and $6 for children ages 5-12. Tickets purchased at the gate are $2 extra and senior discount tickets (60and over) are available at the gate for $15.
