Since October of the fall semester,
more and more physically disabled students at Mesa Community College
have been struggling to find a place to park on campus in the handicapped
spaces provided.
Public speaking is often ranked high
on the list of common phobias.
“It’s a scary thing to do,” said Carolyn Fay,
a communications instructor at MCC, referring to the course.
The Dec. 8, 2004, on-stage shooting
death of former Pantera guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell
Abbott in a small nightclub in Columbus, Ohio, has brought forth
several safety concerns for venues across the nation.
Few individuals realize that suicide
is the second leading cause of death among college students.
Every year, 80 out of 100,000 college students commit suicide in
the United States.
“Adolescence is a period of experimentation and adjustment
for many young people and this is also when we shed our childhood
supports while trying to take on adult responsibilities,”
said A.J. Schwartz, chairman of the American Foundation for Suicide
Prevention.
A portion of MCC’s faculty members and
staff have been working tirelessly in preparation for the visit by
the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (NCA),
which will take place Mar. 7-9.
